Sick Joy

Doors at 19:00
Sick Joy channel the tension between chaos and clarity, creating music written in the depths of darkness but with a thread of defiance, capturing the band's struggle to find balance and connection. With introspective lyricism, they explore the kaleidoscope of personal struggle, our potential for self-destruction, and hard-won hope. Sick Joy’s ethos is rooted in unapologetic self-expression, embracing both darkness and light, and offering a powerful reflection on the turmoil and contradictions of modern existence without compromise or romanticism.Sick Joy’s connection to Brighton is strong and personal. Lead singer Mykl moved from Newcastle to Brighton in 2016, embedding himself in the city, while drummer Sam grew up near the south coast and continues to live nearby. Over the years, various band members have worked at iconic local venues like The Hope and Ruin, Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, and Green Door Store, which have played a key role in shaping their journey. They’ve shared stages with the brilliant Clt Drp and Projector; toured nationally with fellow Geordie-Brightonian's Demob Happy; produced records (including most recent single Alice) with legendary Brighton based producer Ben Hampson, and supported the scene by staging charity gigs to raise money for Music Venue Trust.
